Nathan's Story

Nathan is a happy, busy young man of 18 years old who is very social. He loves attending school at Alexander Mackenzie in Sarnia. He is intellectually and physically disabled and is non-verbal. I am Nathan’s mom Colleen who is his primary caregiver along with his Dad Wayne who is self-employed and works 70 hours plus a week. I have had a double lung transplant and will never have the upper body strength to care for Nathan who also has a brother Zac.We are a busy family and really need more SSAH funding. Nathan will graduate from school in 3 years and we need Passport funding to provide him with day supports after high school. We understand the wait lists are long for Passport funding and no new funding has been announced in the past few years. It is not acceptable that Nathan will be at home fulltime then. We hope that he will be able to attend the local workshops for self-fulfillment and self esteem. Some day we hope that Nathan will be able to live like any other young man in his own apartment with full supportive staff as he needs 24 hour care 7 days a week. Please provide the funding needed for ours and other families who sit on wait lists for services.
